Successful application of iron and steel powders for powder metallurgy as a raw material for the manufacture of structural parts is due to several particular factors. The most important of these are:

  • powder fluidity;
  • bulk density of powder;
  • powder moldability;
  • strength of green compaction;
  • dimensional stability of the product during sintering.

High strength of molded parts prepared by powder metallurgy before sintering is important while pushing out of the mold and prevent cracking, especially when it comes to products with low density. The green strength of powder metallurgy material is strongly influenced by the form of iron particles, the type and amount of lubricant (or other additives), and the density of pressing.
